Know Your Food: Apricots


Apricot a healthy fruit with full of nutrients. Amongst apple, orange, banana this fruit has been neglected. It is available in fresh and dried form.  Small and red orange in color fruit is available in summer season.  It is quite similar to peach but small in size.
Fresh apricots are rich in vitamin A, C, beta-carotene, calcium and potassium.  One small apricot will provide less than 20 calories and 1 gm fiber. 

One can consume Apricots to deal with following conditions:

  • Constipation: high fiber content makes it perfect fruit for constipation problem.  Dried apricots can be soaked overnight and can be consumed early in the morning to deal with constipation
  • Helpful for eyes:  rich source of beta-carotene helps in dealing with macular degeneration.  Beta-carotene is a helpful antioxidants which helps in prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease etc
  • Asthma and respiratory diseases:  Apricot helps in relieving symptoms of asthma and respiratory diseases such as bronchitis.
  • Maintain blood pressure: Dried apricots are good source of potassium. Potassium helps in managing blood pressure levels.
